Overview
At Rebel Labs, I led the end-to-end UX and visual design of a science-backed wellness app aimed at revolutionizing fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness. Designed for users frustrated by fad diets and inconsistent workout plans, the app provided structured programs guided by expert insights. Working in a fast-paced startup, I balanced evolving stakeholder expectations and tight deadlines to deliver a polished, user-focused experience that empowered users to build lasting health habits.

CHALLENGE
Users were Overwhelmed by the Endless Cycle of Fitness Fads, Trendy Diets, and Conflicting Health Advice.
The fitness industry is flooded with fad diets, ineffective workout routines, and conflicting health advice, leaving users frustrated and unsure of what truly works. Users often struggled to find a comprehensive solution that combined structured fitness guidance, personalized nutrition plans, and mindfulness practices in one place. The app aimed to bridge this gap by offering expert-backed programs with high-quality instructional content that explained not just the "how" but also the "why" behind fitness and nutrition choices.
SOLUTION
Empowered Users to Build Personalized Wellness Plans with Expert Guidance
Designed a user-centered wellness app that provided expert-driven fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness programs tailored to individual needs. By streamlining onboarding, structuring educational content, and optimizing program selection, I ensured users could easily build personalized health plans. My approach balanced usability and accessibility, transforming expert guidance into an intuitive, actionable experience—helping users move beyond fitness fads to develop lasting, science-backed habits.

Each recipe includes Fit Facts that highlight nutritional benefits and Rebel Hacks that offer expert tips to improve preparation and kitchen efficiency—turning every meal into a learning moment.


Master the Basics with Cooking Foundations
Designed a content-rich experience to teach users foundational cooking techniques through expert-led videos. From knife skills to meal prep strategies, each lesson was tailored to build confidence in the kitchen and help users develop lasting habits that support long-term wellness goals.
Learn the Science Behind Smarter Nutrition
Structured a course-driven experience led by a registered dietitian, making nutritional science accessible and actionable. The design broke down complex topics into digestible modules, empowering users to make informed decisions about what they eat and why it matters—without the fluff or fad.


Train Alongside Experts through Guided Workouts
Crafted a seamless experience to guide users through progressive training plans across strength, running, recovery, and yoga. Each program was clearly explained with expert video instruction, helping users understand not just how to move—but why it supports their goals.
Stay Focused with the My Day Dashboard
Created a personalized dashboard that brings fitness, nutrition, and wellness guidance into one clear daily view. The My Day interface keeps users focused with timely prompts, program checkpoints, and a sense of structure – turning everyday effort into lasting momentum.

CHALLENGES & CONTRIBUTIONS
Balanced Scope and Speed through Strategic Thinking and Lean Collaboration
As the sole designer at an early-stage startup, I collaborated closely with a small, agile team consisting of just four people—a project manager, one iOS engineer, and two software developers—working together to create a cohesive and polished user experience within tight resources and timelines.
Prioritized Strategy in a Fast-Moving Environment
With a tight launch timeline and a growing feature list, the team focused on defining a realistic MVP that delivered core value without overextending resources. Close collaboration with the iOS engineer helped streamline priorities and shape feasible solutions early in the process. In the absence of backend support, I worked with the engineering team on scalable ways to manage and configure content. Founder requests often challenged platform limitations, requiring thoughtful negotiation to balance vision, usability, and development best practices.
Designed for Clarity and Accessibility
To support a broad and diverse user base, the experience was designed with clarity, inclusivity, and usability at its core. Following iOS Human Interface Guidelines, the team ensured intuitive navigation and thoughtfully structured content across the app. Complex information—like meal plans and recipe filters—was organized to be easily scannable and digestible, with clear dietary labels (vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, etc.) to help users make informed choices quickly and confidently.
Translated Expert Knowledge into Engaging Experiences
Collaboration with fitness trainers, yoga instructors, and a registered dietitian shaped the foundation of the app’s content. Expert insights were transformed into approachable, interactive experiences—through structured learning flows, engaging visuals, and intuitive delivery. This approach ensured the credibility of the content while making it practical and meaningful in users' daily lives.
SUMMARY
Led a Strategic Design Effort for Sustainable Wellness Habits
Delivered a thoughtfully structured mobile experience that empowered users to adopt sustainable habits through expert-led fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness content. Despite the challenges of a small team and tight timelines, the app successfully launched in July 2019 with the majority of requested features.
